Star Wars

Chris Veal

Chris Veal met Nelson "Nels" Guzman met by accident at an Atlanta paint store six years ago.

That meeting would lead to a collaborative partnership that would later make waves in the Atlanta street art community.

The two hit it off talking about a particular paint they both had an interest in using and decided to stay in touch.

"He came here from L.A. and I found out he did murals and stuff, too. He painted graffiti," he said. "I was like 'Oh, alright. I need to call him.'"

Chris Veal recently made news headlines for his Atlanta BeltLine mural of Baby Yoda, a character from the new Star Wars series The Mandalorian.

But his work is no stranger to the city.

Veal said he painted the Baby Yoda for fun because he's a fan of the show.

“It was nice to have something new with Star Wars that I could enjoy again," he said. "Plus, I really love painting stuff from pop culture.”

Leopold's Ice Cream

Don't let the rain keep you in this weekend — in Savannah, there's lots to do from an all-day Star Wars marathon to saying yes to the dress at the Georgia Bridal Show. Mahogany Bowers of Blessings in a Bookbag and Rachael Flora of Connect Savannah have your guide.

“Utility conductor” isn’t his real title, but it might as well be. Officially, Stephen Mulligan is assistant conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and music director of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. That means he conducts educational and other community performances, leads the ASYO, studies all the ASO’s main concert repertoire, attends all rehearsals, and stands ready to jump onstage at a moment’s notice if a scheduled conductor falls ill.
