Families trickled into an empty parking lot Saturday morning in Commerce hoping to pick up free food. Before the sun had even come up, more than 100 families had gathered. Christian rap music blared from speakers set on a makeshift stage as attendees settled in and prepard to wait their turn. Some wore masks or pulled jackets up to cover their mouths and noses, in response to coronavirus fears, while others seemed unconcerned. 

Texas GOP Rep. Chip Roy objected to speeding the measure through a nearly empty chamber and complained that it does not contain any of President Donald Trump's $4.5 billion request for border wall funding.

On this edition of Political Rewind, after months of delay, the U.S Senate approved a disaster relief package that would send relief money to Georgia and other states hit by natural disasters. However, in the House of Representatives, Texas Rep. Chip Roy blocked the measure.


Today [August 7] marks 50 years since Jackson County DA Floyd Hoard was murdered. He was one of the first government prosecutors murdered in the line of the duty in the United States. The event changed the course of law enforcement and politics in Jackson County and led to then-Governor Maddox giving the Georgia Bureau of Investigation jurisdiction in Jackson County.
