As thousands of people prepare to travel during Memorial Day weekend, the world's busiest airport is preparing for major congestion.

 

The travel period begins Thursday and runs through Tuesday, May 28.

At a recent press conference at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, TSA spokesperson Mary Leftridge Byrd estimated that 87,000 people will be traveling on Thursday.

As health officials across the country continue to fight a growing measles outbreak, Clayton County is among the places that the disease might spread quickest.

That's according to a new study published in the medical journal The Lancent Infectious Diseases

The study lists Clayton County among the 25 U.S. counties with the highest risk of an outbreak.

The world's busiest airport is experiencing long wait times to get through security just nine days before it expects 150,000 out-of-town visitors for the Super Bowl.

The Transportation Security Administration said in a statement Friday that Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport had maximum wait times Thursday of 42 minutes, the highest of the nation's top 42 airports.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport had the second-longest wait time, of 19 minutes.

The percentage of TSA airport screeners missing work has hit 10 percent as the partial government shutdown stretches into its fifth week.

The Transportation Security Administration said Monday that Sunday's absence rate compared to 3.1 percent on the comparable Sunday a year ago.
