New York Times bestselling author, Denene Millner has been celebrating the black experience in her work for decades. Now, her new podcast from GPB, Speakeasy with Denene, dives into the “beauty of blackness and all of its manifestations.”

Millner created her website, MyBrownBaby.com, back in 2008 to connect with African American parents in the U.S. She also co-hosts “A Seat at the Table” on GPB-TV.

On Second Thought invited Millner to share about her new podcast, and how it breaks down the many ways that words can apply to the African-American experience.


The list of officer-involved deaths is long, and have revived questions about law enforcement reform.  On Second Thought spoke with Civil Rights Attorney, Chris Stewart, and former DeKalb County Director of Public Safety, Cedric Alexander, to discuss why these incidents continue to take place and what efforts are being take to reform the system.

The '90s sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, ran for six seasons and launched Will Smith as a cultural icon. The show followed Smith as a fictionalized version of himself as he moved from Philadelphia to live with his aunt and uncle in the wealthy neighborhood of Bel-Air in Los Angeles.

An upcoming book series reimagines the story with a new character, a fresh princess named Destiny. Author Denene Millner is writing The Fresh Princess series and joined On Second Thought to discuss her work as an author.


Afropunk is a well-known music festival produced by black artists. It is an international festival, but it will be in Atlanta this weekend. Afropunk goes beyond just entertainment. Its "Solution Sessions" are an effort to address and tackle ongoing issues in the black community. On Second Thought speaks to Ashleigh Shackelford, Bridget Todd and Yves Jeffcoat, three of the featured speakers to hear their messages.

Beyoncé's bleacher-thundering, exquisitely choreographed performances at the Coachella Music Festival in 2018 showed a performer at the top of her game. Queen Bey managed to stop the world again with the realease of Homecoming, a live double album and Netflix documentary about what it took to put those two successive weekend productions together. 

Homecoming has been dissected and analyzed in several ways, but On Second Thought wanted to get deeper perspectives and who better to navigate those nuances than Christine White and Danene Millner? They're co-hosts of GPB-TV's A Seat At The Table.
