As mental health becomes a political talking point, Georgia schools are finding innovative ways to make social and emotional learning part of the curriculum.  

Dr. Debra Murdock is the Executive Director for Cherokee County School District's Social Emotional Learning initiative. She spoke to On Second Thought on the importance of sustaining mental balance for students.

Atlanta native Amber Nash has spent the last decade voicing Pam Poovey on FXX's "Archer." The show is now poised to head to space in its 10th season, "Archer: 1999."

Before heading off on a new galactic voyage, Amber Nash joined "On Second Thought" to discuss her love of improv, her work on stage at Dad's Garage in Atlanta and why "Archer" still resonates with fans years after its premiere.

Fans of anime, gaming and comics: Prepare to geek out at this year’s Momocon in Atlanta.

 

It’s one of the fastest growing all-ages conventions in the country, with more than 90,000 visitors expected this year.

New research on anxiety in the workplace finds in some cases, anxiety can actually help improve employee performance. Georgia State University psychology professor Page Anderson developed a technology to help people with social anxiety by using virtual reality. The software simulates real life settings that cause patients anxiety, helping them learn to cope before they have to confront the same scenarios in the real world. 

In 1981, actor Bruce Campbell first took on "The Evil Dead." The cult hit spawned two sequels, video games, Marvel comic books and a television series. "Ash vs. Evil Dead" airs its season finale later this month. We talked with Campbell last year as he prepared to attend Walker Stalk Con in Atlanta. He shared his thoughts on low budget, his cult star status and getting the chance to reinterpret the title character. 

Actor George Takei first came to fame as a young “Sulu” in the original Star Trek series. But he’s since become an active voice in promoting equal rights for LGBT people. We spoke to Takei last year when the play “Allegiance” was showing in Atlanta movie theaters. The play is inspired by Takei’s experiences in a U.S. internment camp during World War II.

The animated TV series, "Archer," wouldn't be the same without the creative team at Floyd County TV based in Atlanta.  But the voicework that helps the show come to life happens all around the country. 

 Lead voice actor H. Jon Benjamin has played the title character, Sterling Archer, for seven seasons on FX Networks now.  And he has one of the most recognizable voices in the world.

"On Second Thought" host Celeste Headlee is a huge fan of the FX adult animated series, "Archer."  

 

The show's seventh season begins on Thursday, March 31st and Celeste got treated to the fangirl dream of a lifetime last month. "Archer" is designed, edited, produced and mixed at Floyd County TV studios in Atlanta, Georgia, just about a mile away from GPB's home base in Midtown.  And they invited us over for a tour and to meet the crew that makes this wildly popular show.
