The three white men charged with the death of Ahmaud Arbery are scheduled to appear in court before Chief Magistrate Judge Wallace E. Harrell at the Glynn County Courthouse on June 4, according to The Brunswick News.

The defendants, Gregory McMichael, his son, Travis McMichael, and William “Roddie” Bryan will appear through video conferencing technology due to lingering precautions about COVID-19.

A lawyer for the family of Ahmaud Arbery says a federal prosecutor told the slain man’s mother that federal officials are investigating potential misconduct by local officials who handled the case.

Lawyer Lee Merritt said Monday that U.S. Attorney Bobby Christine met with him and Arbery’s mother Thursday.

The last 35 seconds of Ahmaud Arbery’s life have been viewed, studied, dissected and discussed all over the world. That’s because of a video that went viral, showing his final moments before he was shot on a shady street in Satilla Shores, Georgia on February 23.

And while his death has made international headlines, the people of his community remember Arbery for how he lived.

Investigations into the death of Ahmaud Arbery and the handling of that case could be complete soon, Georgia Bureau of Investigation director Vic Reynolds said Friday morning.

The man who filmed video of the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery in February has been arrested, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Thursday.


He is charged with felony murder and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment.


The Georgia Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant at the home of Gregory and Travis McMichael Tuesday evening, the agency confirmed.

A statement Wednesday did not provide further details, saying only that the search was part of the Ahmaud Arbery murder investigation and that the case is active and ongoing.


Glynn County police confronted Ahmaud Arbery, searched and tried to stun him in 2017, according to a police report and police body camera video obtained by The Guardian.

An outside judge has been appointed to oversee the cases of a Georgia father and son charged in the fatal shooting of Ahmad Arbery.

Court records filed in Glynn County show that trial proceedings for defendants Gregory McMichael and Travis McMichael will be handled by Superior Court Judge Timothy R. Walmsley.

The new judge is based in Savannah, about 70 miles from the coastal community where Arbery was slain Feb. 23.

A father and son were arrested May 7 for the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery. But it took more than two months for that to happen. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr has asked both the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Department of Justice to look into the handling of the case.


The attorney for a homeowner thrust into the spotlight of the Ahmaud Arbery shooting says a young black man filmed by a security camera walking through the unfinished home in December and February may have stopped there for a drink of water.

Defense attorneys for the father and son charged with killing Ahmaud Arbery said in a press conference Friday that there is more video of the shooting, though they did not elaborate.

The McMichaels shot and killed Ahmaud Arbery while he was out jogging on Feb. 23 in a neighborhood near Brunswick. The McMichaels told police at the time that Arbery matched the description of someone caught on a security camera committing recent break-ins in the neighborhood.


While segments of Georgia’s economy have reopened, last week Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Harold Melton extended the judicial emergency for the state’s courts until June 12.

Some procedures have been held on Zoom, but criminal and jury trails – and the summoning or impaneling of new grand juries – have been suspended since shelter-in-place orders began in mid-March.

State lawmakers are pushing for passage of a hate crime bill after two white men were charged with murder in the February shooting death of unarmed black jogger, Ahmaud Arbery.

State Rep. Al Williams organized a Tuesday press conference and meeting in Brunswick to move that effort forward. Several state lawmakers attended.

An autopsy report released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation revealed Ahmaud Arbery died from two gunshot wounds and suffered from a third.

The Glynn County coroner’s office conducted the autopsy on Feb. 24, the day after Arbery’s death near Brunswick.

Liberty County Sheriff’s Office

Rashawn Smith, 20, was arrested Sunday in Midway, Georgia, by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He was charged with Dissemination of Information Relating to Terroristic Acts.

The GBI said that on Saturday they were made aware of a threatening Facebook post made by Smith regarding future protests related to the Ahmaud Arbery case, according to a press release

Alan David Tucker of the Tucker & Browning law firm said Friday he is not representing anyone in the murder case against Travis McMichael and his father, Gregory McMichael.
