Whether Flags Or Tackle, NFL's First Female Coach Wants Gender Equality In Football

Oct 17, 2018

This month, schools in Gwinnett county started a girls flag football league, in partnership with the Atlanta Falcons.

It’s the first such program in the state, and organizers hope to grow the program to other Georgia counties.

Besides the high school students who are looking forward to the new opportunity, one woman excited about the league is Jen Welter.

Welter is the first woman to coach in the National Football League. She also played professionally, with men and women.

GPB's Leah Fleming speaks with Welter about her time in the NFL, her thoughts on flag football and whether boys and girls should be on the same field at the high school level.

Welter is the author of the book, "PLAY BIG: Lessons in Being Limitless from the First Woman to Coach In the NFL."
