There are some things you simply don’t say no to. Free ice cream, for instance. Affection from a baby animal. Cold sweet tea on a summer day.
Also near the top of that list? A crash course in Southern cooking from one of the true masters of the art.
When Savannah Magazine offered me and my GPB colleague Gabrielle Ware the chance to learn from Dora Charles, we jumped at the opportunity. And boy, are we glad we did. Dora is a kind woman, a patient teacher and a blast to cook with, and the lunch we made with her was one of the best we’ve ever had. The potato salad was addictively delicious, the pepper salad just the right amount of tangy and the fried chicken - well, there really are no words.
Take a peek at the fun in Gabrielle’s video below, and be sure to read Savannah Magazine’s full write-up of our cooking adventure.
