In today’s music minute, we’re looking back to 1979, when Charlie Daniel's hit song “The Devil Came Down To Georgia” was playing on car radios and at family barbecues around the country.
The ballad tells the story of a young man named Johnny who beats the Devil himself in a musical showdown and earns a golden fiddle.
The song spent 14 weeks at #1 on the Hot Country Singles chart in 1979.
Since then, it’s been covered many times, including in Spanish by the band Caballo Dorado.
Jim Henson's Muppets debuted their own version back in 1980.
And although the 82-year-old Daniels is a native of North Carolina, his song about a battle in Georgia will continue to be a favorite for people all across the state.
