Jennifer Kupcho Makes History As Winner Of First Women's Tournament At Augusta National

Apr 8, 2019

The first ever Augusta National Women’s Amateur Tournament ended this weekend with Wake Forest senior Jennifer Kupcho coming out on top.

Kupcho bested 71 other golfers to win the tournament, finishing 10 strokes under par to close out the event on Saturday.

This is the first time women have competed at Augusta National Golf Course, which had a longtime ban on membership for women.

Augusta National accepted its first female members back in 2012.

After her historic win, Kupcho praised the organizers for putting on a world class event.

"(At first), I thought I was just playing in another tournament," Kupcho said.

"But the way that they've pumped it up and treated us this week and everything, it's been an experience of a lifetime. I'll definitely never forget it."

Augusta National will now turn to hosting The Masters tournament later this week.

The first round will take place on Thursday, with the field playing for an $11 million purse.
