House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and Ranking Member Doug Collins (R-GA) are adding their voices those questioning the circumstances surrounding the death of billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.
The top Republican and top Democrat on Monday launched an investigation into the apparent suicide with a joint letter sent to the Acting Director of the Bureau of Prisons. The two demand answers to 23 questions focusing on facility conditions, inmate care and specific details surrounding Epstein's death.
Nadler and Collins' letter comes after Attorney General Bill Barr announced earlier on Monday that the Department of Justice and the FBI would launch their own investigation. Barr questioned the "serious irregularities" surrounding conditions and management at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan where Epstein was being held on charges for sexual abuse
Nadler and Collins have given Acting Director Hugh Hurwitz until Aug. 21 to respond to their questions.
