Coastal Ga. Weekend: Savannah And Coastal Events Jul. 5-8

Jul 5, 2018

The Fourth of July is over, but the fun continues on the Georgia coast. Marcia Banes of Old Savannah Tours and Marianne Ganem Poppell of Savannah Master Calendar have some tips.

Marianne's picks:

  • Put in some elbow grease at the Creative Coast's Volunteer Day. The Bull Street Labs incubator space needs some love, and they're asking for community help cleaning, organizing and adding a little sparkle from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
  • Do your part at the Jenkins High blood drive at Oglethorpe Mall. The school's Peer Mediation team is hosting from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Celebrate the start of July at First Fridays in Starland. This month's edition includes free coloring books, beer and slider pairings at Sly's and Sulfur Studios' monthly open studios from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday; free.
  • Check out some of the coolest cars around at Oglethorpe Driving Club's Cars and Coffee event at Bethesda Academy. Photographers will be on hand to take your picture with the cars, and coffee and doughnuts are provided from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday; $20 suggested donation to benefit the scholarship fund.
  • Take in dinner and a show with First City Network's monthly potluck social, this time at Club One. FCN members will have access to the 10:30 and 12:30 drag shows for no additional charge. Bring a dish, dessert or $5 for the dinner from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Marcia's picks:

  • Finish out your beach day with music at North Beach Bar and Grill. Local favorites Tell Scarlet will perform from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Find your new favorite sport at Savannah Outdoor Racquetball's  event One Wall Ball at Lake Mayer. Try out racquetball, pickleball and waffle-ball from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday; free.
  • Get down to your favorite classics with Forever Motown at the Savannah Theatre. Nine all-star performers, including former members of the Marvelettes and lead singers of The Spinners and The Temptations will perform hit songs by Motown legends at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday; $42.59 to $55.43.
