"Blindspotting" Shines Light On Gentrification, Police Brutality In Bay Area

From Broadway to the big screen, actors Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal are in Georgia for the Atlanta Film Festival. They both co-wrote and star in “Blindspotting,” a film that examines social issues like gentrification and police brutality through the eyes of of two men living in Oakland, California. 


Diggs and Casal met as high school students in Oakland, where they were both involved in the youth performance poetry scene. In 2016, Diggs won a Tony Award for his performance in “Hamilton” on Broadway. He's also been in ABC's "Black-ish." Casal got his start performing on HBO’s "Def Poetry.​" 

GPB's "Morning Edition" host Leah Fleming spoke with Diggs and Casal about the film they call a love letter to their hometown.
