Republican candidate for governor Brian Kemp’s team declared victory in the tight race for governor during a conference call this afternoon.

Austin Chambers is a strategist with the campaign. He says there aren’t enough remaining ballots to force a runoff.

“The takeaway is clear, this election is over, the votes have been counted and there’s a clear winner. Brian Kemp is the governor-elect in Georgia.”

Democrat Stacey Abrams’ campaign held a call later Wednesday evening. Campaign manager Lauren Groh-Wargo says they are not conceding and do not accept Kemp declaring himself the winner.

Abrams’ staffers said they have a team of lawyers ready to take legal action to ensure all votes are counted.

Kemp and Abrams were not on the calls.

The secretary of state’s office said it will certify election results by next Wednesday.

This post updated 9 p.m. with Abrams' campaign call.
