GPB Radio Announces On-Air Hiatus For ‘On Second Thought’ Until September

Jul 18, 2018

Beginning Thursday, July 19, GPB Radio’s popular daily talk show “On Second Thought” will go on hiatus until September. In the interim,   “Fresh Air with Terry Gross” will air in its 9 a.m. weekday timeslot.

In June of this year, GPB Radio welcomed seasoned radio personality Virginia Prescott, formerly of New Hampshire Public Radio, as the new host of the program. Prescott, whose credits include hosting the engaging podcast “Civics 101,” took the helm of “On Second Thought” after the departure of journalist Celeste Headlee. Headlee had served as the show’s host since its premiere in October 2014.

After her initial time on the air, Prescott and other members of GPB Radio’s editorial team decided they wanted to reassess the show’s goals. In order to determine how “On Second Thought” can best serve listeners in a rapidly changing media landscape, Prescott will take the time away from the daily live broadcasts to gather feedback and ideas. Initial plans include listening sessions in communities across the state with GPB Radio bureaus. More information will be made available as details are finalized.

During this time, Prescott envisions identifying more creative ways of producing and delivering show content, all while incorporating more of her signature style into “On Second Thought.”
